coverage starts right now. this is ktvu channel 2 morning news. good morning, thank you for joining us on this friday morning. january 4th i'm pam cook. >> and i'm dave clark. let's check weather, traffic, steve's right there. >> still cold you need a coat but not as cold as the past couple of mornings. 30s are cold. but 27s and 28s yesterday. that's not the case today. patchy fog out there. mostly sunny to partly sunny. it looks like a change for the weekend. we'll get to that in 7 minutes. good morning if you're driving on highway 24 between walnut creek and oakland, so far so good. also this morning we're looking at northbound 101 in san francisco. that looks good approaching the 80 split. let's go back to the desk. we're following developing news out of san jose where a fire started at a cannibus club. janine de la vega was the first reporter of the scene, what can you tell us about the

investigation at this point. >> reporter: the fire is out and it was relatively small but firefighters think this could have been intentionally set. now, an employee told me that the security company that monitors this cannibu called and said the motion detectors in the building had gone off and a fire had broken out. firefighters were called to the phc club on sanker road this morning at 4:20 and saw flames in the building. a side window was broken when they arrived. firefighters had to force entry to the building to get inside and fight the fire. the sprinkler system was triggered which helped keep it small and it was knocked down in about 20 minutes. >> there was potentially a broken window. we have an odor of gasoline, and then the concerns that it's a commercial building here at 4:00 in the morning to have a fire in the commercial building unoccupied is a concern. >> reporter: again, there is no cause yet on how this fire started and that's why they want arson investigators to

come by and look into this because it was unoccupied because they smelled gasoline, and again, that window was broken. now, if it is determined that it is definitely suspicious and an arsonist is responsible, they are going to look in to see if this medical marijuana dispensary was actually targeted or not. now, i was told by the employee that they do not grow marijuana in the building and none of the product appears to have been damaged. there's water still standing in the building. the club has been here they say about three years and the manager tells me that this is very upsetting that this happened and of course they want answers. reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news. time now 6:036789 happening right now -- 6:03, a hundred pg&e customers have no power after a crash in san francisco. a crash happened at a caltrain employee parking lot at 5th 5th and townsend about 2:00 this morning. we're out there live right now.

you can see what we're seeing. pg&e crews are there and say it is going to take several hours before they get a generator there to get some of the power back. this all started when a chp officer tried to pull a driver over but the driver would not stop. that driver then crashed into the pole and ran away from the scene. as of right now, caltrain says its service is not affected. all of its trains are running normally. we continue our coverage now of a petaluma teenager missing. the search for 19-year-old alyssa byrne resumes this morning. tara moriarty is in petaluma where loved ones are hoping to hear she has been found alive and well. we're here at beyond the glory and this restaurant is going to be hosting a fundraiser in the search for missing alyssa byrne. it has been three days since she was last seen. obviously her friends and family extremely concerned.

her mother kim and her older brother is r waiting for word from her dad who has been in lake tahoe for the past few days looking for his daughter. serge and rescue teams scoured the area by helicopter and snow shoes yesterday and will do the same today. she vanished around midnight from the horizon casino hotel. she will gone there after leaving an outdoor concert fest early because she was cold. one friend who spotted her in the lobby that night says alyssa didn't seem to be herself. she appeared to be intoxicated or on drugs. they have discovered a new signal transmitted in minutes after the new year from her phone. >> we're worried, the nighttime temperatures are very cold. if she's exposed to elements, that could be a major concern. >> reporter: now, again that phone call perhaps a call or a text taking a while to determine where it came from. alyssa's twitter account shows two final tweets that suggests

pueblo. i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. investigators are trying to figure out what sparked a fire that killed a 91-year-old woman. flames erupted yesterday afternoon at the leisure lake mobile home park on stony point road. the mobile home was fully engulfed in flames by the time the firefighters arrived and nearby homes were threatened. the body of the 91-year-old woman was found in a rear bedroom. fire crews are investigating whether or not the home had a working smoke detector. >> time is 6:06. we're finding out more about what led to a deadly shooting at the summer breeze parking lot complex in san jose new year's eve. two maintenance workers confronted 36-year-old christopher soriano because they thought he robbed several cars at the complex. one of the workers admitted to shooting soriano when he tried to get away. a lack of police officers is forcing people to take matters into their own hands say some people.

three drivers lucky to be alive after parts of a big tree crashed down onto their cars. it happened on columbus parkway at 6:00. tree limbs cracked and fell down hitting three cars as they drove by. in shock, i tried to back the car up and i kind of got out and stood there, and you know, remembered how lucky was i wasn't three feet forward. those cars were badly damaged and the third one managed to keep driving. the head football coach is expected to announce today that he is stepping down after 34 seasons. bob is california's all time winningest high school football coach with 399 victories. just last month he coached spartans to their open division state championship. and led de la salle to a national record, 151 game win winning streak from 1993 to

6:14 look another this two arizona teenagers had to be rescued. they were stuck on a tree in a frozen lake, right in the middle of it. they were walking on the lake when the ice started to crack. they climbed up that tree for safety. they were stranded more than four hours. both of them lost their shoe. they used their pat hats coover- - hats to cover up their frozen feet. they were taken to the hospital, treated for mild hypothermia. american troops arrived in turkey today. they will be man patriot missile defense batteries near the syrian border. i want to show you new video. here are some of the troops arriving. turkey asked nato for help.

out on wall street. opening bell in 15 minutes. in the meantime i'll be digging through the report to see which sectors saw the most growth. more on that when i see you next. live in washington, kyla campbell, ktvu channel # news. food truck owners and restaurant owners have been fighting over how much space the food trucks have to given over restaurant businesses. new rules may help ease some of the tension. the restaurant association says some businesses are losing up to 40% of their profits because food trucks are parked right outside. however, new guidelines proposed by supervisor scott weaner would make it so trucks would no longer be able to park near restaurants that serve similar food. the hearing is scheduled later this month. next week officials at al jazeera that just bought san francisco's current tv. they're going to meet with the staff in san francisco. as we told you. arab news channel bought the progressive bay area network

for a half billion dollars. al jazeera hasn't said whether they will keep the offices current on townsend street but they plan to keep at least a bureau in san francisco. in the meantime, lieutenant governor gavin noisome says he will be leaving his talk show by the end of the month. sergio romo has been issued a summons to appear in a las vegas courtroom after he was detained at the airport. they said he could not provide the proper id at the security check point. he became upset and started getting aggressive. romo was handcuffed, cited for violating airport rules and released. itst not known when exactly he is due in court. the giants released a statement, it says in part, "i would like to sincerely apologize about the recent events at the las vegas airports. i love and respect the giants my teammates and our fans and promise to conduct myself in the future in the san francisco

we have a crew up high trying to stabilize the lines and they're trying to get the pole out of the way. it was attached to those wires. it is now being held up by this big truck and it's hanging up over the street. the problem has been they wanted to get this power pole out of the way. it feeds one of the buildings out here and once it gets this out of the way, they say they can turn on the power to much of the people that are affect bid the power outage and that will do a lot to make the situation better. they still have hours of work to do out here. that is the latest from pg&e. and how we ended up in this spot to begin with. this started about 1:50 this morning. i got off the phone with san francisco police. they tell me this started as a chp chase that ended essentially when chp lost sight of the car: that car ended up down here on 5 5th and townsend crashing into the power pole and then into a fence and into

a truck that was parked in the caltrain employee parking lot. at that point it became an accident investigation or an accident report for san francisco police. the driver of the car took off and is still at large at this time. so that part of the investigation is continuing and in the meantime there are a lot of people left in the dark. >> i was doing work remotely, and everything was off and i had to make sure the servers were down. and the security guard told me what happened. this isn't going to be back on anytime soon so i went back to the office, shut down the servers and now i'm just going to stand here and wait until this is back. >> reporter: and he is still waiting. again, a live look at pg&e and crews up high as they try to get the power pole out of the way. i want to give you a better look at where this is, this is the caltrain employee parking lot. the caltrain station has been operating. they are not affected in terms

of power. take a look across the street at this building here. that is the first building that will get power on. the power to that building actually not affected by that power pole. they had to turn it off because the work going on in this area still needed to have that off. so again, we're looking at four more hours for everyone back on. they are making progress. live here in san francisco, claudine wong ktvu channel 2 news. time now 6:33. firefighters in san jose want to know if an overnight fire at a cannabis club was deliberately set. they found a broken window and the smell of gas when they showed up. janine de la vega who's been out there since 4:30 will have a live update on the investigation: san francisco firefighters respond to several christmas tree fires overnight. we saw the after math of one of them there at 21st and folsom. the fire department tells us they responded to ten different calls of christmas trees on fire in the street. out on ocean beach, federal

police and park rangers are steming up their patrols because of the annual illegal tradition of burning christmas trees on the beach. in san francisco, you can legally dispose of your tree, just by putting it outside on your usual trash collection day. crews are looking into the cause of a water main break in berkeley. the 6-inch water main broke on dwight way at 6:00 last night. workers had to shut down the main, cutting off water to 16 homes overnight. an underground pipe flooded part of the road but no damage to the nearby homes. nevada investigators are looking far missing petaluma teenager. 19-year-old alyssa byrne was last seen on new year's eve and ktvu's tar -- tara moriarty is in petaluma. >> we have learned that in nevada the douglas county sheriff's department is going to be holding a press conference at 10:00 this morning. we'll of course let you know what they have to say.

they're looking for 19-year-old alyssa byrne. a 10:00 a.m. news conference this morning is now scheduled by investigators in nevada. our other top story this morning, a fire at at cannabis club in san jose. janine de la vega was first on the scene and you have more details on why this is being called suspicious, janine de la vega >> we're having a little bit of problem with janine de la vega out there, but she will have an update in just a little bit. meantime, today, de la salle's high school legendary head football coach is expected to make a big announcement. brian flores is in concord this morning where the coach is expected to step down. brian. >> reporter: good morning, yeah, there are great high school football teams, there are great high school football programs and there are

legendary programs and for coach bob ladouceur, he has created one of those legendary programs and after 34 years of coaching he may step down today. that's what's being reported. whether that means retirement it's unclear at this point but it's being widely reported that it will happen today. the school issued a press release saying there will be a press conference this afternoon at 3:00 p.m. they did not specifically mention retirement but stating that it would provide some type of information about the future direction of the football program which has made many people to believe that he is either retiring or stepping down in some capacity here at the school. the amazing 399 wins and 25 losses in 34 seasons. that's the most wins in california history and his winning percentage is a national record for coaches with 200 or more wins and his team has won 154 games in a row and 28ncs titles and this season his team went

undefeated. currently on a 26 game winning streak. 20 previous undefeated seasons. coached good players as well. monte tumor, maurice, and jd williams. he has mentioned before he is contemplating retirement. still unclear at this point. we'll find out at 3:00 p.m. coming up we'll talk to students and staff to hear their naughts about the legendary coach. i'm brian flores ktvu channel 2 news. let's go back to san jose, the fire at a cannabis club, janine de la vega first there and this fire is being called suspicious. >> reporter: fire investigators are here on the scene. they're actually inside this medical marijuana dispensary looking around for evidence. now, a window was broken in the building. they also smelled gasoline and this happened at 4:20 the in the morning, so all those things when you add them up, it raised a red flag. when firefighters arrived to

the health care cannabis club they spotted the flames through the window and broke through the front door to get inside. the fire was in a room in the corner where the sprinklers went off to help keep the fire small. firefighters noticed the broken window and the smell of gasoline and started having suspicious. >> gasoline is an accelerant and our concerns are why is there an odor of gasoline in a commercial building be. we'll have to figure out why there was that odor associated with this fire. >> reporter: a manager of the dispensary says they were alerted by the security company that monitors the club. they reported the motion sensors had been set off and smoke was seen in the security cameras. he told me this is very upsetting that this has happened and he wants to know how this fire was started. some of the questions he has is was it accidental or was the club targeted. and again, that's what fire investigators are going to try to figure out. they said they will be here for

report which was lukewarm. time 6:55. a mailbox was stolen from the main post office. the blue collection box on shoreline drive was stolen over the new year's eve weekend. the postal service is advising anyone who may have used that mailbox, double check your bank ask credit card statements. a $10,000 reward is also being offered to catch the thieves. san francisco 49ers kicker david akers is fighting to keep his job and now he says he's getting death threats. he says the threats came on twitter so he closed down his twitter account. the 6 time pro bowl kicker has been struggling lately. he also revealed that last february he surgery for a double hernia and he's been dealing with complications since he fell in practice. the 49ers just signed veteran kicker billy cundiff and he and acres are competing for a spot on the playoff roster. a 6-year-old girl's
